The Public Theater Is Providing Virtual Offerings

 

The Public Theater announces a new series of virtual offerings to keep you connected to the arts during the 2020 COVID lockdown. You are invited to join them for their first week’s byPUBLICdemand events. Click on each link to get registered for a specific class. All classes will be presented through Zoom.

The Public Theater says: “The byPUBLICdemand virtual offerings are our way of staying on mission and being of service to our community.  By offering projects/activities for artists while engaging our citizens with (free and modestly priced) courses and activities, we are doing what we can to to be part of the solution during troubling times.”

Wednesday, April 22nd

4:30 – 5:15 p.m. | Public Prep Virtual Studio: Grades 4 – 5 (Free)
Intro to Costume Design with Michael Ciaramitaro
Have you ever wondered what it takes to design the costumes you see on The Public stage? Join us to learn the basics of costume sketching, how to match a character to their costume, how costumes are made, and tips from its very own costumer, Michael Ciaramitaro. Click here to register.

7:30 – 8:30 p.m. | Virtual Studio: Meet the Artist (Donations)
Kick back and enjoy some time with theater artists. Ask questions and find out about their story — what makes them motivated, specific techniques they use, and more about them and the craft they love. This week, join the Public in welcoming local theater artist David Nanny in the virtual studio! Find out his favorite recipe and how he is managing work/life balance. David is the Theatre Arts Supervisor for NISD as well as a successful performer, director, husband, and father. David was most recently seen in All is Calm and directed The Public’s production of Elf the Musical this season. Click here to register.

Thursday, April 23rd

Acting Technique with Ariel Rosen
This class will cover acting basics and methods to begin or continue your relationship with theater. Learn how to warm up your voice, mind, and body, how to connect a character to emotion, and explore various popular acting methods. Click here to register.

Visit with The Public Theater staff and learn about how we operate and what makes us unique. This week, join George Green (CEO /Artistic Director) for a COVID-19 discussion. Find out what our days are like, what we are evaluating, and what plans we are discussing. Click here to register.

Friday, April 24th

Vocal Training and Pedagogy with Jaime Ramirez
Vocal health and technique are paramount as a musical theater actor and this class will go through the ways to keep your voice in shape, make the most of your breath, and discover your most powerful sound with professional music director and teacher, Jaime Ramirez. Click here to register.

7:30 – 8:30 p.m. | Virtual Studio: Encore Lounge featuring Emily Villarreal ($5)
Emily is a feisty, belting, mezzo- soprano raised in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. She’s a graduate of Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY where she studied under distinguished instructors including Broadway and television actors Diana Canova and Brian McManamon. Emily is currently cast as Alice Murphy Understudy/Ensemble/Dance Captain in BRIGHT STAR with The Public Theatre. Previous credits: A Doll’s House (Kristine), Shrek! The Musical! Gabe Carlton is very excited to perform for you! Previous credits include: Mary Poppins (Ensemble, TPT), Newsies (Buttons, TPT), Anything Goes (Billy Crocker, Clark HS), and Matilda (Scary Big Kid).
