Jump-Start Performance Co. Presents ‘Tejana Rasquacha’

Tejana Rasquacha, a special online event, will be presented next weekend by Jump-Start Performance Co. Written, performed and co-directed by Marisela Barrera, this innovative multimedia presentation that features pre-recorded monologue segments, filmed at outdoor sites in San Antonio, combined with live Zoom audience interaction segments broadcast from Barrera’s home in Dignowity Hill.

Rasquache” means doing what you can with what you’ve got, and that is what the production team does by creating live performance during a pandemic! This hybrid play is directed by Andrew Thorton with live music by Jaime Ramírez and video by Elias Flores, III. Think of it as the San Antonio version of Portlandia meets Gentefied, featuring a Chicana Lily Tomlin-type actor.

The creative monologues feature Tejanas; sometimes funny, sometimes tragic. Along the way, Barrera infuses urban myths with real-talk about quarantine.

Performances are Saturday, July 25, 2020 and Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 8pm. Admission is at the audience members’ discretion to “choose-what-you-pay”: $0, $5, $10, $15 and $20. A Zoom link and password will be emailed after the purchase is complete. Tickets are available at Jump-Start.org, on Facebook @jumpstartperformanceco and at Tejana Resquacha. For more info call 210-227-JUMP (5867).
