The Third Installment of the ‘Doublewide’ Series Makes Its San Antonio Debut Friday

The colorful characters from Doublewide, Texas return to the Fort Sam Houston stage this coming Friday in Honky Tonk Hissy Fit, the third installment of the Doublewide series, written by Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. It is presented under the auspices of the Harlequin Theatre, and is directed by the Harlequin’s Shawn Kjos.

Kjos said, “It’s great to have the actors back reprising their roles from the other shows. It really adds continuity. Doublewide is one of the most popular shows we’ve staged, and we’re thrilled to present its San Antonio premiere.”

In Honky Tonk, the town of Doublewide has grown from four trailers to 17. They’ve turned one of their trailers into a successful rental, attracting the attention of Austin industrialists who want to transform the place into a tourist attraction for people interested in experiencing the “simple, vintage lifestyle” of Doublewide. The mayor balks at the idea, but the townsfolk find the money too tempting too resist.

“Every Texan will identify at least one of these characters as a member of their family,” Kjos added. “It’s also got that distinctive Texas sense of humor throughout. Best of all, just as with Greater Tuna, you don’t need to have seen the other installments to enjoy this new show.”

Honky Tonk Hissy Fit runs Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. from Sept. 1t until Oct. 2 at the Fort Sam Houston Theatre,
2472 Stanley Rd. Please note: All civilian reservations must be made by Tuesday at noon to gain gate access for the weekend shows. Call the Harlequin for more information — (210) 222-9694.
