The Public Theater of San Antonio’s series of virtual offerings continues this week. Click on each link to be registered for a specific class. All classes will be presented through Zoom.

Monday, April 27th

4:30 to 5:15 p.m. | Public Prep Virtual Studio: Grades Pre K-1st (Free)
Stage Movement: Animal Physicality with Resident Choreographer Courtnie Mercer
Physicality is one of an actor’s most important tools. This class is designed to begin your relationship with your body and movement through an imagination fueled visit to the jungle or a trip to the zoo, where you will transform into your favorite wild animal and walk (or crawl) a mile in their paws.

Monologues: Selection, Analysis, and Authenticity with Christopher Ryan Quiroz
Christopher Ryan Quiroz is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, holds a BFA in Acting from Texas State University and AMDA, and has been seen on stage all over the country, including The Public. This masterclass will help you assess how to choose a monologue that you can make exciting and engaging, how to use text work and script analysis to map it out, and tips to dig deep in order to discover your most authentic voice.

Tuesday, April 28th

Improv Skills with James R. Welch
Learn how to act without a script and straight out of your imagination with this beginner’s course in improvisational acting! Train your brain to quickly respond to uncertain circumstances, learn fun (and funny) games, and find out why knowing what to say when there are no words is such an important tool for an actor.

This class will teach foundational technique and basic musical theater dance moves to set the groundwork for your dance education or just give you a chance to refresh your skills! Learn how to make any room in the house into your personal dance studio and get your body moving from home!

Kick back and enjoy some time with theater artists. Ask the questions and find out about their story, what makes them motivated, specific techniques they use, and more about them and the craft they love. Tune in this week and chat with Emily Evans, who played Sibella in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

4:30 to 5:15 pm | Public Prep Virtual Studio: Grades 9-12 (Free)
Acting Technique with Education Coordinator and Actor Ariel Rosen
This class will go over acting basics and methods to begin or continue your relationship with theater. Whether you are just starting out or have been training since early childhood, this class will serve as a refresher course to sharpen up your skills in warming up your voice, mind, and body, connecting emotionally to a character, and how to dive into a role with the preparation required to accomplish your goals on stage.
