Music and Dance Coming to the Guadalupe Theater this February

CELEBRANDO TRADICIONES

On Friday, Feb. 1, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center launches its 2019 Season with a FREE performance of  Celebrando Tradiciones, its new monthly dance and music series running every First Friday of the month this year.

Bringing together its two professional performance companies in residence, the Guadalupe Dance Co. and Mariachi Azteca de America, Celebrando Tradiciones will feature a wide variety of Ballet Folklorico, Spanish Flamenco, Mariachi and Traditional Mexican music with no two shows alike.

“Each month will showcase different regions, styles and dance traditions. Audiences can return throughout the year and have a different experience,” says Dance Program Director Jeannette Chavez. “We will also be featuring authentic renditions of dances rarely performed by other companies, staging beautiful Flamenco choreography with special guest artists, and even reviving classic work from our acclaimed Rio Bravo repertoire.”

“We wanted to kick off the year with a real treat for our audiences. What better way to share our culture and welcome our community into the Guadalupe Family than with this special FREE presentation of Celebrando Tradiciones, said Cristina Balli, the Guadalupe’s Executive Director. “This year will be a beautiful and powerful year for our cultura here at the Guadalupe.”

NOCHE DE ROMANCE VALENTINE’S CONCERT

On the weekend of Feb. 9 and 10, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center presents Noche de Romance, a premier Valentine’s Day concert featuring the award-winning Mariachi Azteca de America. Led by the Guadalupe’s Traditional Music program director Gino Rivera, this dynamic and highly versatile mariachi ensemble will move audiences with its musicianship and sophisticated renditions of traditional Mexican love songs.

Regarded as one of the best mariachi groups in the region, Mariachi Azteca de America will present a romantic evening of music in the intimate setting of the historic Guadalupe Theater which will include a special musical tribute to Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Pedro Infante, two giants of mariachi music and Mexican culture.

In addition to experiencing a one of a kind cultural event, patrons will be supporting the continued growth and expansion of the Guadalupe’s Traditional Music education program and youth mariachi ensemble. “All proceeds from the evening will go directly to providing these young aspiring mariachi musicians the resources they need to grow as students and young performers,” said Cristina Balli. “Last year’s concert and fundraising effort has definitely paid off for our mariachi students. The program has grown significantly in the last year with students performing publicly at city-wide events and becoming stronger musicians.”

The Guadalupe’s Youth Mariachi Ensemble will perform a special set of music at the concert as well.
